“In 2015, I read an interview with Toni Morrison in which she

discussed "strategies for getting around". She was referring to

her sons and their interactions with police, how they survive

and move through life.

get around explores the ways we navigate an often perilous world

through strategies of fantasy and humor. Violence given a face

can be mocked, institutions miniaturized, and bodily functions

imbued with narrative.

These pieces are small, encasing you in disembodied voices and

creating intimate huddles. Angels and demons appear in fine

lines, bodies contort delicately, and words distort softly, belying

the forces working upon them. These alterations - of the

relationships between experience and language, body and scale -

expose vulnerabilities, offer alternate realities, and ultimately,

strategies to exit.
